Lighting a perfect fire might seem simple in theory, but anyone who’s ever wrestled with damp logs or found themselves short of kindling can agree it can be tricker than it looks! Here’s a few tips to help beginners get all fired up:
Use Good Quality Logs
Using good quality logs is key to a perfect fire. Hardwood logs provide up to 50% more heat output than softwood, as they are denser and heavier. Make sure the logs are kiln dried for a hotter, longer and cleaner burn – Our kiln dried hardwood logs are dried to below 20% moisture on a large drying floor.
Kindling is Key!
Holding a lighter to a log isn’t going to light it – Kindling is key for getting that fire started! For a fire to start, the wood needs to reach a high enough temperature to catch – and sustain – a flame. That’s why we use kindling: The gradation from small, easy-to-catch wood through to large, slow-to-burn logs strikes the perfect balance.
